2017 | Year in Review

I've always believed that photography is about more than just pictures of life's little moments, to be printed, shared, and framed. Photographs give us a chance to relive life's experiences. The joy, the tears, the love, the pleasure, the tastes, the sights, the laughter... it is because of photography that we can relive these moments for years to come.

In a fast-paced world, where life seems to be going by in an instant, I love how photography stops time. Each little fleeting moment can be captured and experienced again and again. And when we reflect on the nostalgia of a year gone by, or a child growing up too fast, or loved ones lost, or that bucket-list place we visited, or concert we attended, we will always have our photographs to bring us back to each of those moments in the past.

So each January, when the days are long and it seems like everyone is reflecting on the year gone by, I like to remind myself that the new year means I have more photographs to share, more memories to reflect on, and more life in my bones.

Nostalgic, sentimental, and cheesy I may be, but this is why I love being a photographer. :)

Don't miss my 2017 Year in Review Slideshow, a must-see! (Click video at right!) And here are some of my favorite memories from my photography adventure over the past year:

  • Another year of meeting and working alongside so many amazing photographers throughout Colorado
  • Meeting my niece, Adeline Irene, and taking her newborn photos in March!
  • Getting to shoot a wedding in a mountaintop barn with wild horses running outside
  • A record summer of music photography, photographing my highest # of concerts in one season at Red Rocks since I started in 2012. And a HUGE thanks to Tedeschi Trucks Band for hiring me to photograph the band during both nights of their summer run at Red Rocks Amphitheatre!
  • Working with UC Health's Cleft Clinic in Fort Collins, photographing a spirited little boy, Daniel, who is a shining example of the incredible work this clinic does
  • Hitting the road to photograph destination weddings in Virginia and Hot Springs, Arkansas
  • Supporting Stand for Children Colorado's leadership development program, which empowers parents to make sure their children are on track academically
  • Laughing my way through photo shoots with the silliest and sweetest kids
  • Getting published! - So exciting to see my photos on full-page prints in two separate issues of Denver's Reign Magazine
  • Hiking through Rocky Mountain National Park with an adventurous (& pregnant!) bride & groom after they eloped in the mountains
  • Capturing natural, happy moments for a record number of families and new clients-turned-friends
  • My most memorable wedding guest ever - a huge moose who showed up minutes before a wedding ceremony at Winding River Ranch in Grand Lake, Colorado
  • Fly-fishing for the first time during a photo shoot at Marabou Ranch in Steamboat Springs, Colorado
  • Adventures with my little husky, Lu - we went stand-up paddleboarding at Green Mountain Reservoir, hiked Emerald Peak, camped above 13,000 feet, and went sledding in Winter Park, all during photo shoots. My dog is the coolest assistant ever!

The Rhoads Family | Granby, Colorado | Denver Family Photographer

Last week I made the gorgeous drive through the Rocky Mountains, over the winding Berthoud Pass and through Winter Park, where I met the Rhoads family of five (six if we count Tebow, their goldendoodle!) for some family photos at Lake Granby.

A St. Louis family poses for a portrait in the Rocky Mountains near Lake Granby during a session with KellYeah Photography based in Denver, Colorado.

Oh how Mother Nature blessed us!! The rain had been pouring all afternoon and stopped just as we gathered for our photo shoot. I had chosen a special spot I'd recently found while scouting mountain locations. With the incredibly picturesque Lake Granby and stunning mountain peaks as our backdrop, we were full of laughs as I snapped away and captured some beautiful memories of the Rhoads' family vacation.

It was only a week prior that I'd gotten a call from Amy, asking if I'd meet her family in the mountains to take photos during their summer vacation to Colorado. After driving cross-country from St. Louis, Missouri (dog in-tow!), they settled into their cabin and kicked off their trip with a family portrait session.

Are you planning a trip to Colorful Colorado? I'll meet you in the mountains to capture memories for YOUR family in the most picturesque settings!

Life is full of fun adventures that should be captured in photos to last a lifetime!

Courage Classic Bicycle Tour | Children's Hospital Colorado Foundation

During training season for the 2017 Courage Classic bicycle tour, which takes place July 22-23, I met up with one of the bike tour's seasoned athletes, Kim, to get some inspiring photos of her on the trails!

An athletic woman in Colorado sits near her bike after a long bicycle ride to soak in the sun and enjoy the scenery of the Rocky Mountains.

Supporting Children's Hospital Colorado patients and their families, the Courage Classic welcomes 2,000 riders every year to bike for two days over Rocky Mountain passes, ending in scenic Copper Mountain.

The adventure starts early for athletes like Kim, who has been training for months in preparation for the high altitude and steep mountain climbs.

An athletic female bike rider in Colorado adjusts her bike as she trains for the Courage Classic bicycle tour in the Rocky Mountains.

I followed Kim into the foothills of the Rockies to get some action shots of her, and boy did we luck out with a warm breeze at sunset and the trails to ourselves. I love seeing athletes like Kim following their passions and inspiring all of us to get outside, do good in the world, and push yourself!

You can follow Kim's cycling team, The Frequent Flyers, on Instagram. As a physician's assistant, Kim and her team are all members of the Children's Hospital Colorado Emergency Medicine staff. They're a group of inspiring women who know how to make dirt & sweat look good!

Chris Stapleton | Live at Red Rocks Amphitheater | Colorado Music & Concert Photography

At the end of May I photographed soulful country star Chris Stapleton live at Red Rocks in Colorado. I was also asked to write a review of the show for Listen Up Denver, and you can read a portion of my review below! :) Also, enjoy a handful of these photos from the sold-out show that was for sure one for the books!! Starting out as a photographer in 2012, the first subject I learned to photograph was live music right here in Colorado. It has been such an honor to continue photographing the legendary musicians that pass through the Rocky Mountains. Although I've expanded my portfolio to weddings, families, and more, I will never stop photographing concerts and musicians! My passion and appreciation for music continues to be inspired by every band I photograph, and of course the front row seat is icing on the cake. ;) Enjoy and Happy Thursday!!

p.s. I'd love to hear what concert you're most looking forward to this summer! Who knows - I may be there taking pictures! Leave me a comment and let me know!

Chris Stapleton "All American Road Show" Tour - Red Rocks Amphitheater - May 24, 2017
Although he’s been receiving industry recognition for almost a decade (Stapleton was first nominated for a Grammy Award in 2009), , the humble family man who has quickly rose to the top of the charts in country music, is loved not only by country music fans but by fans of all genres.  His deep voice is full of soul and has roots that are reminiscent of Johnny CashMerle Haggardand the current Zac Brown of the Zac Brown Band.  Stapleton quickly sold-out two nights at Red Rocks this summer, which was certain to be recognized nationwide. Many fans traveled to Colorado to catch Stapleton at Red Rocks, while the rest of the crowd was made up of local fans of Country, Soul, and even Blues music.  We settled into our seats after a long wait in traffic to catch most of Brothers Osborne’s opening set.

You’d be hard-pressed to find a better way to kick off Summer than dancing with your friends at Red Rocks to Chris Stapleton’s signature hit, “Tennessee Whiskey.” And the chaser to our whiskey-soaked night was that amazing Colorado weather that is quickly becoming less of a secret.

While Chris and his wife, Morgane Stapleton, took us away with them on a romantic, yet rockin’ night of live music, the sold-out crowd kept the beers flowing and made sure the Stapleton’s knew they were among friends in Colorado.

Chris Stapleton may be known for that raspy, sexy voice of his, but his guitar playing is not to be overlooked. His entire band really impressed me and I’ll be looking out for their next stop in Colorado.

SETLIST: Chris Stapleton – May 24th – Red Rocks, Morrison, CO
Might As Well Get Stoned, Nobody to Blame, Midnight Train to Memphis (The SteelDrivers cover), Them Stems, Outlaw State of Mind, Death Row, Up to No Good Livin’, Broken Halos, Whiskey and You, Daddy Doesn’t Pray Anymore, Parachute, When The Stars Come Out, Second One To Know, You Are My Sunshine (Jimmie Davis cover; Morgane Stapleton on lead vocals), Hard Living, Traveller, Fire Away, Tuesday’s Gone/The Devil Named Music (Unknown), Tennessee Whiskey (David Allan Coe cover)

Professional Headshots and Portraits | Denver Colorado Photographer

Doesn't it seem like we all know someone who is either looking for work, building their own business, trying to expand their network or climb up the corporate ladder?

One of the smartest things you can do as you grow in your career is to have a professional portrait taken. You should also update your headshot any time you make a big change to your look, OR to your job. Got a promotion? It's time to update that headshot! Want a promotion? It's time to update that headshot and show how serious you are about investing in your brand and your company.

Here are a few reasons why:

  1. Stand Out!
Competition is fierce, both among start-up companies and among job-seekers. A great headshot makes you memorable, especially when taken by a professional who will help you capture your best self.
  2. Be Approachable.
People like to talk with people they're familiar with. As silly as it may sound, a picture is worth a thousand words, and a nice photo of yourself will make you much more interesting to recruiters and clients.
  3. Be Taken Seriously.
A professional photo (versus an iPhone photo) is high-resolution, so it will look good on any website or in print. The worst thing is when you have a nice photo of yourself, but it becomes pixelated and blurry once uploaded to a website. Make a great first impression with a quality photo of yourself, not an amateur one.
  4. Stay Memorable!
Perhaps you've had a professional headshot taken before...but it's been years. It's time to get a new one! Recruiters and clients alike are constantly scoping us out online (whether on LinkedIn, your website, social media, etc.), and if your headshot seems outdated - it's obvious.

I can't stress enough the importance of having updated professional photos - it does wonders for your business and for your career outlook. So today, I encourage you to take a hard look at your current headshot, and ask yourself if it's time for an update.

When you're ready, contact me to schedule your photo session with KellYeah Photography! Headshots and portraits are one of my specialties! I love working with different people, finding the best location that matches your personality and industry, and capturing natural smiles that represent your best self. I really can't wait to help you gain confidence and grow in your career!

What I'll Deliver:
- ideas + recommendations for attire that will photograph well and match your style
- posing (all you have to do is show up!)
- location ideas - after learning about your goals, I'll come up with the perfect, unique location for your photos
- a comfortable experience with laughs and no awkward moments (the best way to get that natural smile!)

** Group sessions offered at a discounted rate. If you have a team of 2 or more, scheduling your photo session at the same time is a great way to make sure everyone on your team has updated headshots that have a similar look & feel.

TIP - if you book with me before May 15, I'm offering an additional $25 discount!

Don't wait too long - your dream job or dream client could be waiting for you!! :)
